Bad Tattoos

I Googled "bad tattoos" recently. It's been done a gazillion times already, so I'll just link to this blog with some good examples (MANY OF THE LINKS IN THIS PARAGRAPH INCLUDE MATERIAL WHICH IS NOT SAFE FOR WORK), some worse ones here, You're Getting WHAT? Tattoo'ed WHERE? Volume 1 and Volume 2 and more at hubpages and gigglesugar. Don't miss the great tale of Jason Harris, the St. Louis Cardinals fan whose tattoo artist couldn't spell or get the year correct if you hadn't read or heard about that one already.

Here are a few of my "favorites" (from the safe for work category):

Aside from the cliche, the tatt isn't the worst, but check out the caption from the original source: right ankle; my only generic tribal thing (everyone’s gotta have one right?) - it does feature the kate bush symbol in it tho - so that makes it more “me” (bold added for emphasis)...HAHAHAHAAAAAAA, ROCKNLOLLERCOASTERZ!1!

Speaking of that...

It was all Greek to her (and to her alone):

The idea wasn't as bad as the tattoo:

Geekily good, or simply ridiculous? (I thought I'd seen this on an entire neck and back somewhere...on the same guy?)

He really loved Batman in a plain, old, bad, oldschool way:

One real tuff and confident guy:

Don't get me wrong. I'm not a tattoo hater. I've seen some good ones, and some of the best have belonged to friends of mine. (And some have been regrettable and/or cliched...in their words.) But let's face it, there certainly are dumb, tasteless, and bad tattoos out there.

I can't click on all of the links since I am at work but the horribleness of that 8-ball makes me want to cry. And the tribal thing...ugggh.

That is why if I get a tattoo I want this girl to do it. She is GOOD.

The ones you can't peruse at work are mostly well-executed but ridiculously bad otherwise.

This is visually safe for work, for example, even though the idea behind it isn't really appropriate in any context whatsoever.

Actually, the Tesla tat made me think of my brother, but overall it reminded me of you watching the VH1 countdown.

I finally downloaded Walk by Pantera and have been playing while doing my boring regression testing!

They must feel left out for not being on that one guy's back.

That "Batman" one isn't really anything to do with Batman ... it's called a Clandestine bat and was created by Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy. It is the representation of a creature that haunted his dreams as a little boy and it is also the logo for his clothing line.

Oops. Thanks for clearing that one up. I knew I should have used that space for the guy with all of the eighties hair band names on his back instead.

Personally, I'm skeptical that bats truly haunted Pete's childhood dreams. That still seems like a tongue-in-cheek reference to Batman to me.

That first one is kind of meta. "Tramp Stamp" is a term used to describe a tattoo on a woman's lower back.

Yeah, I knew about the use of that term (which I've also seen used to refer to any/all tattoos on a woman's body...see also: Wonkette's coverage of the Spitzer/Ashley "Kristin" affair). I'm surprised someone actually got a tattoo of that, or it could be a great photoshop job. I had also found a picture of "lower back tattoo" on a different woman in English/Detroit Tigers/gangsta font, but that one seemed like it had to have been photoshopped.

Did you look at all of them? Many were far worse/scarier than a portrait of Johnny Cash. ;)

I didn't look at many of them because I assumed they weren't safe for public computers. I came across the term "tramp stamp" when I looked up "butt-rocker" in the urban dictionary; I didn't know it referred to any tattoos on a woman's body. I guess that means I'm a tramp, but I already knew that, :-)

When I read that essay about the JohnnyCash tattoo I was thinking how if people were sensible and left their pubic hair the way it is then that tattoo would not have been a problem. I've had pubic hair since I was seven and I have no desire to look like a five-year-old down there. Blargh.

Eh, that definition was contextual via Wonkette, not my own.

I personally don't care much about tattoos (unless they're completely tasteless, ugly, and/or distracting or worrisome) or pubic hair either way.
