I keep mentioning these grey birds I can't ID, and I may have finally gotten a pic of one yesterday.

I know that's a brown-headed cowbird in the background, but what's in the foreground? Sorry it's blurry. At least I was able to crop out the flash.

I think that's a female cowbird.

It doesn't have the brown head, though, like this one (the bronzed cowbirds seem to have even more brown as shown here). If it is a female cowbird, then the females are larger than the males with entirely different wingspans.

When I see those grey birds around, I almost think they look like some sort of dove, but none of the doves or pigeons I've looked up matched. When they fly away, the middle of each wing has a white pattern on it. They could be any number of other things and I wouldn't know.

Also, do you know of any red/crimson birds without crowns which are not cardinals? I saw another one (or the same one) today which I'd referred to as a juvenile cardinal in this post, and I'm not sure what else it could be.

There's the:

House finch

Scarlet tanager

Summer tanager

I've seen house finches, so I know it wasn't one of those. Maybe a summer tanager, but I'm pretty sure the beak was yellow. The crown was almost bald, so I suppose it could have been an injured or molting (or juvenile?) cardinal.

Oh, if it flashes bright white on the wing in flight, then that's a mockingbird.

Northern mockingbird to be precise.

That's definitely it. When I scrolled further down in Wikipedia, I saw another pic like that which was right on, but the first two on that page made it look like a smaller, stouter bird.
